Repair or replace — what you can see from the ground
Stay off a wet roof. Walk the yard. Look at gutters, downspouts, and the ground under the eaves.
A repair may be enough when:
- A handful of shingles are missing or flipped on one side of the roof
- A limb punched one hole
- A leak is at a pipe, chimney, or where the roof meets a wall, and the rest of the shingles look intact
- The roof still has real life left in it
A full reroof is usually the honest call when:
- Hail marked more than one side of the roof, or the gutters are full of granules after the storm
- Wind lifted a large section, or several edges and ridges are open
- You can see wood or daylight in more than one spot
- The roof was already old, brittle, or leaking, and this storm finished it
- A patch would be a different shingle and a different color, and it would not last
Atlanta hail and wind often look small from the driveway and still break the shingle. We get on the roof and tell you which it is.
Insurance, without the mill pitch
Storm damage — hail, wind, a tree — is often a homeowner’s insurance item. Ordinary wear is not. We do not file the claim for you, and we do not talk you into one.
What we actually do:
- Inspect and photograph what the storm did
- Separate storm damage from a roof that was already worn out
- Meet the adjuster on the roof when that helps
- Put the damage in writing so you and the adjuster are looking at the same roof

When we tell you to reroof
A repair is the right job when the damage is local and the rest of the roof still has life. A replacement is the right job when the whole roof is done — hail across it, a large wind loss, wet wood, or a roof that would take one repair after another.
We will not push a reroof to make the ticket bigger. We also will not sell you a cheap patch that will be back in the next storm.
